I think fasting has many advantages, but it's should definitely be a personal choice.
All religious beliefs aside; I feel its absolutely mind over matter! To only eat one meal a day is so super easy for many people. To not eat any food for 24 hours isn't easy for many people, but really easy for others.
I remember the 1st time I decided to fast for 24 hours. It was extremely difficult, and after about 22, 23 hours I gave in; I felt the need to eat. I feel its a mentally things as much as it'd a physical need to eat.
I've need seriously stressed out, and utterly depressed, and couldn't eat anything for 2, even 3 days straight. I, of course, kept up with my fluid intake, but I'm not good at forcing myself to eat when I'm totally not hungry.
In my religion there's no significance, or belief in fasting. In the Hindu religion there's a religious significance and meaning. It's oftentimes, meant to bring luck to your husband, or to pray for a husband.
Also many husband's are willing, and choose to fast for their wives. It's not solely limited to women, but it's undoubtedly a personal decision.
What if you're Sikh, like me, and your husband is Hindu? I've seen many mixed interfaith marriages that work out. They celebrate both religions, different holidays, and symbolic rituals. Many Hindus and Sikh's marry.
I've seen people of our Sikh religion wear a bindi and sindoor; mainly the women, but many men, too. I understand that there's no significant meaning on our religion to fast for your husband, but as a personal choice; I feel it can show respect, pride, and yoir inner strength to do so, if you choose to do it.
Mind over matter! 3 days no food because of depression, and couldn't seem to get an appetite! It's doable, it honestly takes self determination, and mental strength!
